Instructions

  • Select approximately 500g of small to medium sized White Potatoes that look wedge-worthy, and give them a good wash
  • Leaving the skin on, chop them into the best wedge shapes you can manage. I usually chop the spuds in half, then cut those halves in half again, and finally half them one more time to make 8 wedges per potato

  • Give the wedges a rinse, then pop them in a medium sized cooking pot filled about halfway with water. Drop in around 3g of Salt, and 5g Baking Soda, then bring to the boil.
  • Once bubbling, boil the potatoes for around 5 minutes
  • Meanwhile, pre-heat the air fryer to 200℃ (390℉). Then mix 5g of Salt, 2g Paprika, 2g Garlic Powder, 2g of Onion Powder, 2g of 5 Spice Powder, and 1g Black Pepper in a small bowl
  • Once the potatoes have boiled for 5 minutes, remove from the heat and strain into a colander, allowing a minute or two for the steam to evaporate. Dry the saucepan in the interlude
  • Pat the potatoes dry with a piece of kitchen paper, then return them to the saucepan
  • Using a pastry brush, roughly coat the potatoes with 20g of Sunflower Oil before tossing in the seasoning mix and placing the lid on the pan. Then, holding it securely, give the whole thing a good shake, to evenly distribute the seasoning onto the wedges
  • Now, pop the whole lot into the Air Fryer and cook for approximately 20 minutes, turning once halfway through, until they are golden brown in colour

Elevating Your Air Fryer Potato Wedges

Selecting Your Potato Variety

Even though the humble spud deserves accolades across the board, not all varieties will find themselves at home in the potato wedges realm. For example, new potatoes will struggle to attain the desired texture, huge tubers will lose the classic wedge shape, and waxy ones will yield limp and ungainly results. To achieve the best wedges, try and get a good all-round potato like Russets, Yukon Gold’s, or Maris Piper’s. In addition, you should also select medium-sized and relatively uniform shaped spuds in order to make consistent and aesthetically pleasing potato wedges.

Play Around With Herbs and Spices

For this recipe, I have used a classic combination of garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt and pepper, with a little 5 spice powder thrown in for good measure. However, if you are the adventurous sort, you can try adding a little extra flavour punch of your own by dropping in a few further herbs and spices. Popular options include, cumin, coriander powder, ground ginger and turmeric. While, those looking to knock their socks off can choose a little ghost pepper chili powder.

Partner Your Potato Wedges with a Main Dish

Now that you have mastered the art of glorious air fryer potato wedges, the time has come to partner them with an equally impressive main dish. As such, these incredible incarnations of spud will find themselves perfectly comfortable alongside The Best Pizza You Can Make at Home, some Home Baked Chicken Drumsticks, a delightful Hamburger, Barbecue Pork Ribs, amazing Steak and Guinness Pie, and as a bed for some Easy Beef Chili.

Choose Your Favourite Dipping Sauce

Anyone who has ever chowed down on a delicious potato wedge will know that the experience requires the addition of a finger licking dipping sauce. I’m a big fan of both my Formerly Top Secret Chili Sauce and Extra Special Barbecue Sauce, while a spot of Guacamole or Garlic Aioli will also set those taste buds tingling.

The Best Device for Making Air Fryer Potato Wedges

If your are new to this air fryer lark, then trying to find the best tool for the job can prove a daunting task. Some devices will promise you the world with numerous presets and functions, while others will offer my personal favourite, an indestructible two-dial workhorse where nothing can really go wrong. Having toiled through the vast array of air fryers on the market, I have whittled them down to this Ninja Air Fryer I found on Amazon as the best currently available. It manages to keep the functions to a minimum, while providing great results through an intuitive and idiot (me) proof user interface.
