Instructions
Cold Brew Coffee
- To get this show on the road, we first need a little patience and make our cold brew coffee. However, if you happen to have a shot of espresso on hand, you can skip this step and jump straight to the cocktail
- Place 40g of coarsely ground coffee beans per 200g of Cold Water (filtered or bottled) in a mason jar, secure the lid, and give it a good shake
- Then place it in the fridge for exactly 24 hours. Any longer, and it will begin to taste bitter
- After 24 hours, strain the whole thing through either a coffee filter, some clean unscented cloth or, at a push, some kitchen paper, so that no grains remain
- Re-jar and refrigerate the resulting cold brew coffee, and use within 2 weeks
Espresso Martini
- Pop 50ml of Vodka, 30ml of the Cold Brew Coffee (or chilled espresso), 25ml of Kahlua, and 10ml of Simple Sugar Syrup in a cocktail shaker along with 3 cubes of ice
- Shake fiercely until the shaker has become ice cold to the touch
- Strain into a martini glass and garnish with 3 coffee beans
- Casually enjoy your Cold Brew Espresso Martini while lording it over drinkers of lesser cocktails

Getting to Grips with the Cold Brew Espresso Martini
It’s all in the Beans
In order to make the best possible drink and not end up with a class of bitter mud water, mixers should carefully select their coffee beans. This means finding a good quality espresso roast that will hold its own in a regular old mug of coffee. If in doubt, make up a brew and taste it before improving it with alcohol.
A Little Extra Kick
When making these for myself, I have an extra trick up my sleeve to bring a bit more power to my Espresso Martini. As well as making cold brew coffee, I will also have some coffee infused vodka to hand, which I use for mixing the drink. As such, I will take around 5 grams of whole coffee beans and steep them in 250ml of vodka for around a week. Then, when in the mood for a tipple, I will use this instead of boring old plain vodka. If you want to go even further, throw in a quarter of a vanilla bean in with the vodka and coffee beans.

Is it really an Espresso Martini Though?
Wiley types with an eye for detail will have noticed that this isn’t actually a martini and also not made with espresso. Despite this strange state of affairs, however, it does look and taste exactly like the thing you came looking for. Therefore, feel free to ignore the inaccurate naming convention and get ready to enjoy caffeine and alcohol mixed into a single fancy looking cocktail.
